First Grade Junior Great Books

Based on the acclaimed Great Books program for children, this story-based group is designed with first graders in mind. Children do not need to be able to read to participate. Parents read with or to their children the assigned story before the group meets, and then the story will be read aloud again to the children during our meeting. We will have a short discussion about what happens in each story and why the various characters might be making the choices they do. We will complete a short craft or activity following the story and discussion. A light snack will be provided by the library. This is a program for children who, after spending a day in school, are comfortable sitting still for half an hour to listen to a story and then talk about it.
