Last season I visited two Boston Bolts North Shore Advanced Forwards and Goalkeepers Clinics at Choice Fitness Elite, Peabody. Boston Bolts is an established club soccer and training program that expanded to the North Shore of Boston last spring.
They offer clinics and coach club teams for both boys and girls, born between 2009 and 2018. For fall Boston Bolts is running clinics at Choice Fitness Elite, Peabody. This gym has an upper level, turf field and is located on Rt. 1 South.
Boston Bolts North Shore clinics are held in 4-week sessions, with sessions in September and October. Find the full schedule here.
Clinics focus on position and skills, and are divided by age group, with boys and girls training together. Each Clinic is led by a leadership staff member with a proven track record of player development at organizations such as Sunderland AFC, Newcastle United and the Scottish Football Association.
The number of players is kept low on purpose so each player gets a high level of attention from the coach and drills are tailored to the players.
The Advanced Forwards Clinic is for girls and boys, born between 2009 and 2013, who are looking to improve their all around attacking game. The sessions, beginning in October, are led by Coach Murray Cockburn–a former D1 college soccer player and experienced coach, focus on shooting and finishing techniques, movement, first touch and dribbling. During my visit, each session also included a goalkeeper who got plenty of opportunities to practice blocking shots from many angles.
Boston Bolts North Shore also holds a 3v3 Fest on Friday nights in September at the Choice Fitness Elite, Peabody. During this, girls and boys, born between 2014 and 2017, will compete in a 3v3 scrimmage, which puts them in game-like situations to enhance skills, practice new moves and score goals!
If your child loves soccer and is interested in taking their training to the next level, these clinics are a great choice! Many of the players in attendance play on other travel or town teams, and chatted with Coach Murray at the start of each session and in between drills on how the prior weekend’s games had gone. They described what had gone well for them, and Coach Murray helped them identify what skills needed work.
In addition to these clinics Boston Bolts is probably best known for their competitive, year-round soccer programs for boys and girls of all ages. They have competitive teams in both their North Shore and Lexington locations and are excited to continue to develop teams on the North Shore, with tryouts for the 2025 season beginning in November. They are the only soccer club in Massachusetts with a complete development pathway.
Teams travel for games and tournaments and practice at Choice Fitness Elite in Peabody.
