Did you know that children should see an orthodontist by age 7? If this feels overwhelming, don’t worry…most kids don’t need treatment at that time! These consultations are free and are actually a preventative measure that could save parents money and kids time, down the line when most of their adult teeth come in and they are ready to begin orthodontic treatment. (Typically around age 12.)
I just learned 7 was the magic age for your first orthodontist visit when I met Dr. Carlin Weaver and visited her practice–Weaver Orthodontics–at 230 Salem Street, in Swampscott, MA, earlier this month.
Dr. Carlin Weaver was born and raised in Swampscott and took over her father’s (Dr. Buck Weaver’s) dental practice in 2015 when he retired. She is a board-certified orthodontist, who attended Tufts for both dental school and orthodontic residency. She is close with her dad, who is known for his friendly demeanor, and loves treating the children of many of his former patients. Weaver Orthodontics is truly a family affair!
Weaver Orthodontics has been located in Swampscott since 1978, but they just completed an impressive total renovation of the clinic space. They now offer a fully digital office that specializes in Invisalign and Lightforce Braces.
Lightforce Braces are printed using a special 3-D Printer which allows the bracket on each tooth to be completely customized for each patient. Dr. Weaver says, “Every tooth has unique anatomy, just like a snowflake!” And this customization allows for a more comfortable fit and typically shortens the braces treatment time from approximately 2 years to 1.5 years.
In addition, they offer remote dental monitoring, so patients are taught how to take scans of their teeth at home and easily submit them to the office. This allows Dr. Weaver, and her team of 9 staff members, to monitor patient progress and cuts down on the visits needed to their office…saving parents time and keeping kids from needing to miss school for appointments.
Weaver Orthodontics is one of the few North Shore orthodontics practices to offer a fully digital office and remote dental monitoring! Patients can also text Dr. Weaver’s office with treatment questions and to make appointments.
On top of all this cutting-edge technology, Weaver Orthodontics has a great atmosphere. All of the staff members were friendly and Dr. Weaver was easy to talk to and lots of fun. I know kids will love her!
Patients do not need a referral from their dentist to see an orthodontist. Dr. Weaver also treats adults, with many seeking Invisalign treatment.
