This week I have the pleasure of introducing a mom of two and Licensed Esthetician from Middleton Cosmetic & Laser, Val McDonough. Val is a skincare guru and has a passion for making people look and feel their best! Keep reading to learn how she got started in her career and her favorite spots to shop and workout on the North Shore.
Where are you from originally and what town do you live in now?
I grew up in Malden and live in North Reading now.
How many children do you have and what are their age(s)?
I have a son, Grayson, who is six and a half and a daughter, Evelyn, who is five.
What’s your favorite family activity on the North Shore?
The beaches in the summertime, especially Wingaersheek Beach.
Where’s your favorite place to eat and/or shop on the North Shore?
MarketStreet in Lynnfield. Our date night spot is Davio’s. If we are bringing the kids, then our favorite is Temazcal. My favorite places to shop are Sanctum Style for myself and The Gap is always great for the kids.
Tell us a little bit about your background and how you got started on the team at Middleton Cosmetic & Laser.
I have been a Licensed Esthetician for 12 years, after graduating from Catherine Hinds. Post graduation, I taught esthetics for two years before transitioning to a medical spa. My career has afforded me the opportunity to work alongside top providers, have access to continued learning and the newest technology in skincare. When making the decision on what is next for me, MCL was the answer. After reflecting on the past year at MCL I am so excited to have joined the team of professionals who work tirelessly to provide the best care and treatments for their clients.
What are some of the services you provide at MCL?
Hydrafacial, Diamond Glow, Medical Grade Peels, IPL, Skin Tightening, Microneedling and Dermaplaning.
What services do you recommend most to moms?
I recommend routine facials and Botox. Along with using products from a medical grade skin care line daily.
What do you like best about working at MCL?
The work environment is great at MCL!
Any tips for balancing work & motherhood?
There is only so much time in a day so prioritizing what is important, while also taking time for yourself, is key. Following a schedule will allow you to do what is most important. For me, that’s spending quality time with my family.
What is the best piece of mom advice you ever received?
Kids aren’t perfect, so don’t expect them to be. You will always worry but try not to worry about the little things. Lastly, patience!
