I’m excited to introduce the Desroches today. They are the sweetest, most upbeat couple and in the process of getting to know them and their business, Soccer Shots Metro North, they also revealed that they are expecting their first child this year. So exciting! Keep reading to learn about how they started Soccer Shots and where you can find their fun soccer classes for kids. Kaitlyn is also a lifelong Beverly resident, so you know she’s got the best local recommendations!
Where are you from originally and what town do you live in now?
Anthony: Growing up in a military family, I traveled across Central and North America, finally landing in Europe for high school. I came to Boston for college in 2005 and never left Massachusetts!
Kaitlyn: I was born in Beverly and was ecstatic when we found our first home in Beverly.
Both: We love living in Beverly and look forward to starting our family here.
How long have you been married?
We were going to get married in October 2020, but in 2019 we spontaneously decided to elope while on vacation in Croatia. 10/10 recommend eloping!
How many kids do you have?
We are pregnant with our first child, due in September.
What’s your favorite activity to do as a couple on the North Shore?
We love going to the local beaches and kayaking. However, Anthony will do most of the paddling this summer while Kaitlyn handles the lounging.
Where’s your favorite place to eat and/or shop on the North Shore?
Delphine’s Bakery in Beverly is our favorite place to grab a sandwich and pastry! Plus, their signature drinks are a must during summer.
Tell us a little bit about Soccer Shots Metro North and how you started this program.
After spending years in corporate franchising, we both wanted to venture out as business owners and follow Anthony’s lifelong passion for soccer. We were craving a sense of reward in our work. We knew we wanted to create a business that involved working with children, and opening a Soccer Shots franchise proved the perfect opportunity. Soccer Shots allowed us to pursue our passions and embark on a new adventure as business owners. By combining our love of soccer and children, we created a program that positively impacts the lives of children in the community.
What age children can enroll in Soccer Shots?
As early as two and up to eight years old. Our curriculum is developed in alignment with the Massachusetts early childhood education standards, with each program catering to a specific age group.
Where do your classes take place?
Stoneham, Wakefield, Melrose, Saugus, North Reading, Burlington, Winchester, Lexington, Woburn, Somerville, Medford. And Lynnfield and Bedford coming soon!
Can kids play soccer with Soccer Shots all year round?
Yes! We run outdoor programs in the Spring, Summer, and Fall and move indoors for Winter.
How is Soccer Shots different from other soccer programs in the area?
We put an equal emphasis on children’s character development as we do on the game of soccer. Our goal is to run a children’s soccer program that teaches valuable life skills alongside soccer skills. Our curriculum is age-appropriate and expert-approved, with ongoing communication to keep parents in the loop.
I’m always impressed when couples can work well as a team in both life and business. Any tips for other married couples looking to start their own small business?
Stay in your lane, respect the other person’s lane, and over-communicate about your lane. Celebrate the wins of being a small business owner, like being able to grab an ice cream together at 2 pm on a Tuesday.
What’s your favorite thing to do when you need some “me” time?
Kaitlyn: Baking. I enjoy the science behind a good dessert but do not have the patience required for decorating!
Anthony: Lifelong and avid video gamer! My current obsession is Hogwarts Legacy, but my favorite game of all time is Zelda.
