February school vacation week is right around the corner. If you aren’t planning to travel, your family can still enjoy the week at home. Keep reading for a list of local events, outdoor activities and exhibits.

 

Fun February Vacation Activities

 

  1. DIScover Vacation Camp – This camp at Danvers Indoor Sports features a variety of sport specific games, different variations of tag, dodge ball, board games and more. Ages 3.5-5 can sign up for the Mini Clinic, from 9am-12pm; Ages 5-12 can sign up for the half (9am-12pm) or full day (9am-3pm) camps. Cost is Mini Clinic/Half Day $40/Day; Full Day $65/Day Members, $75/Day Non-Members. 2/20-2/24.
  2. Kids at The Cabot welcomes Debbie and Friends an award-winning musical group that draws heavily from fairy tales that kids will already be familiar with to craft an awesome show that will get kids dancing. Debbie adds some lyrical updates to keep these cherished stories fresh, keeping everybody tuned in and laughing, including the parents! Perfect for families with kids ages 2-8. Sat. 2/18, 10:30am. Tickets start at $7.50.
  3. Fun Art Workshops – Art’s Cool in Middleton, is hosting two workshops per day on Mon. 2/20, Tues. 2/21 and Wed. 2/22, from 10:30am-12pm and 1-3pm. Choose from Winter Animals Crafts & Fun, Fabric Painting & Fashion Design and more! All workshops are best for ages 5-12, except for Winter Animals Crafts & Fun, which is for ages 4-8 ($45). $40/workshop. Register at www.artscoolmiddleton.com/programs.
  4. Open Paint & Craft Kit Event – Open Paint at Hammer & Stain North Shore, in Beverly, is a great time to pick up a craft kit (projects starting at $8) and make it on the spot! On Sat. 2/18, Wed. 2/22, Fri. 2/24 or Sun. 2/26, from 11am-3pm, you can choose from fun winter projects or popular every day ones. You can also select your kit and have it packaged to complete at home. Kids and adult projects available, good for ages 4+.
  5. Celebrate Black History Month at North Shore Children’s Museum. Local artist and performer Michelle La Poetica will host a special event exploring black excellence. Featuring bilingual story time, books to take home, and a fun activity. Sat. 2/18 at 10am. This event is free with admission to the 9AM – 12PM play session. Tickets are subject to availability.   6. LEGO Train heads back to the Wenham Museum! Visit the LEGO Train with museum admission on Sat. 2/18 from 10am-4pm and Sun. 2/19 from 12-4pm. Come see a rainbow colored, L-gauge model train speeding along a brick track as it races by soaring skyscrapers, country cottages, mountainside ski slopes and much more.  The LEGO Train is designed by the New England LEGO Users Group (NELUG). Advanced Tickets are REQUIRED due to the popularity of this event.
  7. Hit the slopes, go tubing or take to the ice. Find a list of local mountains for skiing, snowboarding and snow tubing as well as outdoor ice rinks and other fun attractions in our Winter Activities Guide!
  8. Messy Makers STEAM Day or Drawing Classes – Kids will enjoy being dropped off at this new creative studio in Danvers, for a morning of hands on project-based discovery and unstructured creative time! Tues. 2/21 from 10am-1pm. Drawing Classes available Tue. 2/21 & Thurs. 2/23 from 10:30-11:30am. $35 pp for STEAM Day, $15 pp for Drawing Classes. Advanced registration required.
  9. Visit the new Play Studio collaboration between Let Them Eat Cake and Play and Posy Market in Rowley. Let Them Eat Cake and Play will be hosting creative workshops in the afternoons from 3-4pm on Mon. 2/20, Tues. 2/21 and Wed. 2/22. Choose from Potion Making, Confetti Shaker Bookmarks and Wish Bottles. $25, advanced registration required. Posy Play will host nature-inspired enrichment class designed for preschoolers (3-5 years old) and their grown up on Mon. 2/20 and Tues. 2/21 from 9-10:30am. $20, advanced registration required.
  10. Visit Real Pirates Salem and learn the real-life stories of Maria Hallett, the Witch of Wellfleet, and her beloved “Black Sam” Bellamy, and see the only authentic pirate treasure ever discovered in this interactive experience! Located at 285 Derby, Salem. Find more details at https://realpiratessalem.com. Open 10am-5pm daily, $14.50 for ages 5-14 and $17.50 for adults.
  11. February School Vacation Week: School’s Out, and Wellness is In! – Head to the Peabody Essex Museum for drop-in art making activities, family-friendly tours and workshops for all ages with museum admission. Explore different ways to “be well.” Learn about featured exhibitions that navigate social, emotional, cultural and environmental forms of wellness. Featuring guest artists Shelagh Keeley and Jenny Oliver of Modern Connections and art therapist Laura Menucci. Mon. 2/20 – Fri. 2/24 from 11am-4pm.
  12. Kids February Vacation Ice Cream Craft Party – Join Wicked Rustic Workshops for an Ice Cream Craft Party at Putnam Pantry in Danvers. Enjoy making a craft project and your own ice cream sundae! (Parent must be in attendance.) Mon. 2/20, 3-5pm, $30. Advanced registration required.
  13. Get Tinkering at the Hamilton-Wenham Public Library. This free event lets kids utilize their engineering skills to see what they can create with everyday objects. Not recommended for toddlers due to the presence of small objects. Tues. 2/21 from 11am-1pm. No registration required.
  14. Superhero Dance Party – Join Miss Jackie and DJ Hermanium for a rockin’ time with Superhero-themed songs, a superhero starter kit, coloring sheets, a mask-making station, and more! Superhero costumes are encouraged but not required. Fri. 2/24, 11am-12pm at the Flint Public Library in Middleton.
  15. Giant Games – Plan to meet friends or just drop by for this family activity and play with a collection of oversized games, including: Giant Jenga, Giant Connect Four, Giant Spoons, Giant Tic Tac Toe, Jumbo Bananagrams, Jumbo Pick Up Sticks, Pass the Big Pigs, Giant Uno, and some Corn Hole. Work with coding toys, too! Wed. 2/22 from 1-3pm at the Ipswich Public Library. Free and no registration required.
  16. Open Play Sessions – Get the wiggles out indoors! Kids up to 6 years old will enjoy the variety of themed rooms and the indoor playground at The Children’s Piazza in Peabody. Three daily play sessions are available by reservation between 8:30am and 5pm, Mon. 2/20 – Fri. 2/24. Cost: $12 per child/$8 per sibling, (One adult per child admitted at no charge. Additional adults will be charged the sibling rate.) Register for a session at www.thechildrenspiazza.com.
  17. Barn Babies, Guinea Pig Sanctuary and Animal AdventuresThe Wenham Museum will be hosting these fun events for animal lovers on Tues. 2/21, Wed. 2/22 and Thurs. 2/23 (times vary by day). Cost: $10 Members, $12 Nonmembers (Museum admission included). Register here.
  18. Glow Mini Golf – Too cold for mini golf? Not at Aloha Mini Glow Golf. This course is located inside the Northshore Mall (lower level near Nordstrom) and open daily, M-Th. 11am-8pm, Fri. & Sat. 10am-9pm and Sun. 12-6pm.
  19. Cowabunga’s –  This huge, indoor, inflatable playground in North Reading, encourages families to climb, jump, slide and play together. Open Tuesdays through Saturdays 10am-8pm and 10am-6pm on Sundays.
  20. Hit the Arcade or Ropes Course at In the Game in Peabody. Hours vary by day. Enjoy 1/2 price games for President’s Day on Mon. 2/20 from 12-10pm.
  21. Crane Beach WinterFest – Celebrate the season at Crane Beach WinterFest, a family-friendly event on Fri. 2/24 from 6-9pm. Activities include live music, fire pits, and outdoor games. Food, beverage and alcohol vendors will be onsite! $36 for a member carload, $45 for non-member carload.
  22. Saturday Morning Youth Bowling League – Head to Cape Ann Lanes in Gloucester on Saturdays from 11am-12:30pm for their Youth Bowling League. Includes 3 strings of bowling with coaching, a slice of pizza and a small drink. $10/child ages 3-17. Drop-ins welcome.
