Day Trip: York’s Wild Animal Kingdom | The North Shore Moms

Have you been to York’s Wild Animal Kingdom? We recently took a day trip to York Beach in Maine and were pleasantly surprised by what we found.

The Wild Animal Kingdom is part zoo, part amusement park. If your kids are a little older you can enjoy both. My son, at almost 3, was a little intimidated by the rides so we opted for zoo-only admission tickets ($14.75/adults, $9/kids 4-12 and $1/kids under 3) and spent the morning visiting the monkeys, zebras, alligator, lion, tigers, goats, spotted deer and more!

The deer were a favorite. You can walk into their enclosure to pet and feed them. They are for the most part really gentle, even though the enclosure can be full of screeching kids! You can also walk into the goat enclosure and pet them, but they’re a little more aggressive.

After the zoo we walked through town, stopped for candy at the Candy Corner and then jumped in the waves at York Beach. Depending on where you live on the North Shore, York Beach is roughly an hour away and makes a great day trip! The Wild Animal Kingdom remains open through September but be sure to check the hours on their website when planning your visit.
