Fungi Walk for Beginners

June 25 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Off-site location: Dow Brook Conservation Area @ the 326 High St., Ipswich, MA entrance. Registration required.

While this program is intended for adults, there are 5 spaces available for teens separate from this registration form. Please email teen librarian Katy at [email protected] by the end of Friday, June 18th to register as a teen. On June 19th any remaining teen spots will be given to adults on the waitlist.

This is a guided mushroom walk for all those interested in discovering fungi growing in the Dow Brook Conservation area, the 34-acre parcel of wooded uplands and wetlands adjacent to town reservoir watershed lands and connected to thousands of acres of open space lands with an extensive trail network. The walk leader will be Jana Harris of Essex Forays, certified in Wild Mushroom Food Safety and a member of the Boston Mycological Club. The walk will last about 2 hours and will give participants a chance to look closeup at mushroom species that are unique to the wetland environment and also mixed woods. Depending on weather there will be different types of mushrooms to explore. Please wear sturdy shoes, bring a water bottle and ID field guide if you have one, baskets (optional).

Please include a valid email or phone number with your registration so that you can be informed of any changes to the program’s location, rain date, etc. if necessary.
